5 things I learned that improved my blog this month

Although this month was short, I’ve somehow been able to generate more unique visitors this month than January. I’ve been reading tips and tricks on different methods to improve my stats however with my actual actions I’ve been able to truly understand what I’ve learned. Out of all the things that I’ve learned here are the top 5 that I feel are truly valuable:

Stay consistent with the updates

I have been looking at my web stats and I find that when I update on back-to-back days, even if it’s one post a day, the traffic will either stay the same or slightly increase. The moment that I miss just one day I would see the stats drop. So by updating at least once a day I can keep the momentum going.

Interact with the visitors

Whenever someone decides to leave a comment on my post I try to immediately respond and somehow there seems to be more traffic to the comments section than my actual posts. It’s as if the visitors are interested
in the comments prior to reading the actual post itself.

Create Original and Appealing Content

At one point I would just pull all kinds of articles from other sites without really adding anything of my own in there. It seemed rather dull and I was giving off the sense that I was just a biter with no originality. The moment I started to create my own content they would generate more page views than the ones that weren’t mine. I guess no one really wants to read the same trash on another site. Shoot, I really wouldn’t waste my time on those neither.

Leverage Social Media to increase traffic

I’m a strong believer that Social Media is by far the fastest way to generate a buzz about my web presence in the shortest amount of time. For instance, by writing an original post and posting it on my news feed/twitter feed, it just jolts the stats.

Motivate yourself

This one has to be the hardest one because of so many different obstacles that just landed in my way. From writers block, to lack of quality content (that hasn’t been overexposed already) to no time or even just no energy. I’ve played around with my schedule to find a happy medium to see when I get most of my original ideas from but I’m still experimenting. I do enjoy waking up early (say 5:15am early) to browse the web and see if there’s anything interesting to blog about.

I am enjoying this blogging stuff and have even started another blog on the side called SeduceDontSell.com. I’m going to stick to blogging for a while longer to see where it takes me.

A little botox for the aging Facebook

Facebook finally turned 6 years old and it has decided to do some minor tweaks to improve it’s face a little bit. Not to many changes have occurred however it’s been done to help make one’s facebook user experience a tad better. Some of the changes are as follows:

Users will be able to send messages to friends in their social network directly from the Facebook homepage, rather than having to open a separate window
There is more emphasis on search, with a larger search box appearing on the page.
The Live Feed and News Feed sections both have been integrated into a single News Feed, with a “Most Recent” tab for live updates, and other highlights filed under the “Top News” tab.
Some navigation buttons have also moved from the top and bottom of the homepage to a pallette on the left-hand side of the screen
Videos uploaded now appear under the Photos section
When you receive a Facebook notification about someone writing on your Wall or tagging you in a photo, you’ll see a red bubble appear in the left-hand corner, near the search bar

Did you get a chance to catch the American Idol Audition of General Larry Plat’s “Pants on the Ground? Well if you haven’t, it’s only a matter of time ’til you do. General Larry Plat auditioned on American Idol and made a fool of himself with his “Looking like a fooooooooo” hit. It’s a very funny video and the moment you watch it it has virality written all over it. This show has managed to hone their abilities to create viral videos that promote the show with minimal spending. If you’re a business or even an individual, embrace the power of viral marketing. CNN Anchor Anderson Cooper saves young Haitian from street brawl

These are one of the posts that I’m by far very happy and pleased to see. Anderson Cooper, an award winning CNN Anchorman made it his duty to save a young boy who clearly was struck during a Haitian brawl. These moments of despair for the victims of Haiti can lead to violence and will show no sympathy to anyone. What you are about to see shows a video of Haitians crowded around a demolished store in which violence breaks out. Moments later you can see Cooper dragging a shocked boy, which blood was running profusely covering the side of his face, to safety. I’m very proud of AC because he took no regard to his safety and just felt he had to do the right thing, a call for duty if you will. These reporters have far more responsibility than to just simply report what’s going on. What do you think? Should reporters get a bit more involved as long as it’s within their capabilities?
